16th january 2008 has seen the arrival of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0. With the launch of this new release current Pro/ENGINEER users can expect to see over 195 software enhancements, 116 of which are in the core modeling package! Further to this, PTC is introducing new functionality and the ability to work with and modify imported geometry from other CAD systems, including feature recognition functionality. On top of this, Sheet Metal Design and Manufacturing have now been further simplified with an easier to use, user interface!

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 also introduces the ability to create 3D PDF's. Supported by Adobe Reader 7.0 or higher, this feature allows you to spin, pan and zoom your model in Adobe Reader, as well as measure, section and mark up in Adobe Standard/Professional.

In addition to this, PTC has now incorporated a much easier way to remove sharp edges on your model with the new "Auto Round" feature. This feature allows for a designer to quickly finish the model by easily adding all the rounds on a model, so what used to take up to 90 minutes to do (depending on expertise level) can now take only 40 seconds!

As a designer apart from estimation, how to you decide the tolerances to apply to your model? Tolerance Analysis is a brand new module introduced in the release of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0. Available to purchase, this module is used to predict the effect manufacturing variation on the finished prodcut without having to build expensive prototypes.
